We're sitting down here aboard Wings in our snug berth at Sutera Harbor in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. This is by far the nicest marina we've ever stayed in, with definately 5-star facilities, and at a good price.

Judy hangs out at the Olympic size pool and swims laps for exercise, I love to spend my time in the chart room using the WiFi connection.

We can take a taxi to town for a couple of bucks and there are great restuarants also at good prices. What more could you ask?

Oh, the sailing around here is great too.

At Gayana Island Resort we ran across this interesting boat run by a couple we knew from Mexico and other places in the Pacific when they had a Macgreggor 65 named Final Frontier, Steven and Aleta Hansen.

Steve and Aleta went to Norway and bought this 100 year old 100 foot, 118 gross ton steel cargo boat and converted it to a luxury cruising vessel. What a cool boat!

This family came into town on a local cargo boat, and the two women stepped ashore, then Dad handed over the little boy, finally the little girl. Then they all went shopping(less Dad).

On the second floor, in addition to a great restuarant, is a movie theater, bolwing alley, and a huge "chart room" where people can relax in cool quiet. That is where I go to do internet on their wireless hot spot.

On the way to the mosque we passed this water village. There are lots of these in Asia, but here in Koto Kinabalu many of them are being torn down and the residents moved to high rise apartments. Its OK with me, since the harbor of Kota Kinabalu is filled with the refuse from some villages like this. They must think that the sea beneath their houses is a garbage dump.

Fruit Market

Fruit Market in the Mountians. The area around Mount Kinabalu is a major farming area for Sabah. The cool climate, heavy rain, and rich volcanic soil mean big harvests, but we know some of these fruits were actually grown in the lowland and trucked to the mountain top to this market; it's a popular stop for visitors driving over the pass, and business is brisk.

Sutera Harbor Marina

We found this marina in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo. It is perfect: new, well protected, good facilites, and a good price. It is also in a modern and booming town, shopping is excellent.
