American Crocodile
Every time we went out on the water in the dingy we saw these guys. About 3-4 meters long, silently gliding along, looking at us. Once we drove the dingy about 10ft away from one and didn't see it until we were past. He did not submerge until we turned the boat around to go back towards him. One site in the Internet it says they do not attack people or boats. Another site says they do. Who should we believe?

Monkey Business

We were talking to Linda and Dave from Nimbus at dinner one night and Linda mentioned that there were monkeys in the bush behind Pranang Beach. We'd been ashore there the day before but hadn't noticed any monkeys. We were determined to find them and, if possible, get some shots so we headed that way the next day.

After we got to the beach and pulled up the dingy we set out directly into the jungle, promptly got a bunch of bug bites for our trouble, and saw no monkeys although we heard one drop to the ground from a tree near us and take off running through the bush. I knew it was a big monkey by the heavy thump he made as he landed on the hard ground, but I never saw him.

We worked our way down towards the resort at the other end of the beach and breaking out into the clear we struck paydirt. A bunch of tourists were pointing up into a tree. We spotted the Spectacled Langur in the tree which resulted in the first photo below.

But the real photo opps came a few moments later when we saw that a whole troupe of Macaques had gathered near the resort and had surrounded some gawking humans, apparently distaining to pose for the cameras because they studiously avoided looking at the cameras but staying nearby and in plain view for several minutes.

The monkeys were too fast for me when they were swinging through the trees but I had no trouble finding subjects to shoot as they sat on the walls of the resort and nibbled nuts and leaves on some of the lower branches.
