Rebak Marina

Near Langkawi, Malaysia is Rebak Island. Nestled deep inside Rebak Island is Rebak Marina. This is the most protected marina we have been to.

What animal made these?

Walking around Rebak we saw these animal footprints. We don't know what they are from.

Ocean Blue

At the point of the island we gazed out onto the Indian Ocean, and it called to us.

Back On The Hard

We needed to haul Wings back out of the water to fix the stern tube (you might remember the story about this problem or the photos).

Wings

Working on the Shaft
As soon as we were in the stand we had a tent built inside Wings and I was inside it with a grinder working on the fiberglass.

All Fixed

The engine box doesn't look much better, I'll admit, but everything has been cleaned, refurbished, and repaired, and that included the shaft, stern tube, the flange, packing gland and while we were at it, we also removed and reconditioned the Westerbeke Hydro Hush muffler, which has been untouched for 27 years! It looks fine.

Meanwhile, here are other shots from the boat Yard and Rebak Marina area

Silver Palms at Rebak

There are these beautiful silver palms here at Rebak and I have three shots I took below. I am going out tomorrow to get some more.

Hornbill Flying

At Reback Marina there are a number of interesting creatures including otters, monkeys, hornbills (birds) and cobras. One morning I went out with the Nikon to photograph the hornbills and I got a few good shots. I am sure if I did this a few more days I would get plenty more; there are a lot of these birds and since they make a big racket they are easy to find.

I haven't figured out how to find the otters yet, or the monkeys, but the cobras, now that is another story. I didn't believe that there were any cobras here but today I saw one myself! A smallish snake, maybe 30 inches, about as big around as my finger, stuck in the concrete drainage ditch. The security guards had already spotted it and they said, "Yes, it is a black cobra, very dangerous." Just what I wanted to hear specially since I had been tromping around in the bush the same morning trying to catch a look ot the hornbills, and I was looking up, not down! That is the last time I do that!

Anyhow, here are some of the shots I got of the hornbills:
