We pull the mainsail out the bow hatch. Then the genoa. Sailing is work for us, but we don't mind.

Not really a breath to sail in so we put up the awning, put on the autopilot, and motor north.

Phang Nag Bay on a hazy day

Beautiful

During the SW Monsoon the clear days are more rare than in the NE Monsoon. This is often the way it looks in Phang Nga Bay this time of year. It's still beautiful.

We could go into those islands for a spectacular anchorage but then we have to worry about the tide going in and out and the water is shallow. No, we'll anchor near here where there is some breeze and plenty of room to swing and enough water in all tides.

The fish looked good but the prawns he had looked better to us. We bought 3 lbs for about $US8.88, not cheap but a good price for such quality. Both parties to this transaction are happy.

We thought it would be an easy reach past Koh Phanak but the wind came more from the south and we hardened up to try to clear the point.

Eventually we had to tack.

Thinking about the day

A quiet moment for thinking

We drop the sails and anchor in the anchorage we have selected for the day. With the main down but still blowing on deck Judy contemplates the day's sail. Just for a moment though, then we have to fold the sails and put everything away.

What is she thinking about? Well, her thoughts are her own but for me I was thinking about the tacking we just did through the shallows up to this anchorage and the puffy conditions which made it a bit tricky. We could have dropped the sails and motored but instead we pushed it a bit. It kept us on edge, but that's what makes you know you are alive.

Anyhow, now we're here and anchored and we have a nice evening ahead of us.

Laem Phrao

Mosque at Laem Phrao

From the marina, on quiet days, we can hear the mullahs calling the faithful to prayer in the village of Laem Phrao. There is one mullah there who has a beautiful voice and hearing it echo over the water to where we sit on Wings is magical.

When we walk up the hill to the village we never hear it the same way, and we don't know who it is who has this voice, but the friendly people and the happy kids of this peaceful village is make it magical even up close.

Muslim Kids

There are eleven speed bumps in this tiny village for good reason: It keeps the speed down and the road is safe for the local kids.

Sathorn Road & Silom Avenue

The Bangkok BTS line lifts over the highway at the Sathorn Surasak intersection near our house in the city.

These three wheeled open air'd taxis have 2-cycle motors which run on propane and they have a distintive snarl which you can hear all over Bangkok. We don't ride them much because they cost more than a taxi, not to speak of the fact that they are a bit dangerous, in my opinon.
