The end of the line for our Shatin tour: we reached this pier on Tolo Harbor, reachable by dingy from a good anchorage. We could anchor Wings here and easily get to a train station for a different commute.

Another satellite city in the New Territories, Mah On Shan has the standard look: tall apartment blocks and concrete canyons. In the bases of these buildings are modern shopping malls, all looking exactly alike.

Beautiful Bridge

One more beautiful bridge. But notice how light the traffic is? This freeway and these bridges were built for the new airport on Lantau, and there is no commuting and not much goods transportation on this route.

Tung Chung

Alleyway Marketplace

Hong Kong's streets and alleys are the locations for most of the fresh produce consumed here. But the street stores are not limited to produce. Meats, dried food, hardware, virtually anything actually, can be found for sale on the sidewalk.

Dai Pai Dong-Street Restuarant

Dai Pai Dongs; a passing scene. These street restuarants are found in the back alleys of Hong Kong. Well loved by locals, but not known for santitary conditions, these are being phased out by the Hong Kong government. Licenses are being cancelled when the license holder dies, and no new licenses are being issued.

Cantonese Opera

Here is a photo from the Cantonese Opera we recently attended. It was fun, but we confess: We didn't understand one word! But the music was soothing, and we had fun listening to the audience giggle and laugh. It was a comedy about marital negotiations, we think.
