Heading up to the volcano
Sulphur Springs
We see the volcano from sea level. Here this river runs hot enough on one side to cook a pig and cool enough on the other to put your feet in. On the hillside above large stones were landing; we could here them land with a thud. There is a village here and the volcano seemed to loom over it ominously.
Startled

We stood on the rim and looked into the mouth. Lava on the floor of the volcano glowed and there was the sound of rushing air like the breath of a giant. Then a low rumble and an sudden explosion of lava which startled us. There is no way you can be prepared for this outburst of noise and fire. Your heart stops. You feel the heat. You are shocked. Stones as large as televisions fly up into the sky and rain down onto the rim. Several people moved back after that and some went down to the truck. Too dangerous up here.

Fire

Each burst was accompanied by a roar and a boom which shook us.
