Our dock lines were 25 years old and served us well. We will always remember buying them off the bargain table at the Fisheries Supply swap meet all those years ago, but it's time for new ones (Africa finally put paid to the old ones) so a trip to Southern Ropes was in order. In Hout Bay, near Cape Town, we visited another bird park, World of Birds (also had monkeys and small mammals, which we didn't get a chance to photograph). In this park, even though they were caged instead of free flying, we liked seeing them and were able to get up close to many. One nice day we headed east from Mossel Bay along N2, The Garden Route, and after a visit to the Birds of Eden aviary, we turned North and drove over Prince Alfred's Pass. The road was a bit rough but we had no problems, the views were wonderful, and once again, we are amazed at South Africa. Along highway N2 between Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay, The Garden Route, in South Africa's Western Cape, we found this aviary, the world's largest, multi species, free flight, aviary, the sign said. As we were driving past one of many river overlooks I got a glimpse of an elephant and so we turned off the road, parked the car, and walked to the viewpoint where we could look down into the river valley. We even saw some in the bomo (fenced enclosure) tagged for auction to other preserves and game parks.
